Aston Villa – Will they won’t they?

Aston Villa may have problems holding onto their main midfield asset this summer, who has already been the subject of a £20 million bid from Manchester City and Martin O’Neill knocked it back claiming it was to be “no where near the valuation” that Villa have of their midfield maestro.

Manchester City are rumoured to be coming back with a £25 million plus Stephen Ireland in a bid to lure the young England midfielder to Eastlands and away from Villa Park. MJames Milneranchester City may face competition though from their fierce rivals Manchester United for Milner, as Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be a keen admirer of the player.

Milner, who originally operates out on the right wing has shone in the centre of midfield this season for Aston Villa and he has come to the attention of some of the other clubs in the league after his prolific goal scoring record for a midfielder scoring 11 goals in all competitions and at the age of 23 he still has plenty more left in his game.

Aston Villa can expect Manchester City to return with an improved bid, whether it will be with a cash plus player bid or just a vastly improved cash bid. But without a doubt Villa are set to be “quids in” Milner, enabling Martin O’Neill to bolster his squad with a few more players from the cash he will make by selling Milner, which is set to be at least £20 million plus.

Some positives for Villa fans are that the midfielder is only likely to sort out his future after this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, so they will have a bit more time to watch him play knowing that he is in essence still an Aston Villa player.
